  • The Marmara Trio

    Mine Doğantan (piano) was born in Istanbul and studied at the Istanbul Conservatory with Verda Ün. Mine is the founder of the Marmara Piano Trio, and the recipient of an AHRC award for her research in chamber music performance.

    Zsuzsa Berényi (violin) studied the piano at the Bartók Specialist Music School and she got her first class degree at the Liszt Academy of Music on the violin in 2006.

    Pal Banda (cello) was born into a musical family in Budapest. He began to learn the cello at the age of 9. At the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music he studied with his father, Ede Banda as well as György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados.

    Come and hear how philately can help us to understand more about Hungarian culture, history and society, as well as enabling us to forge closer links with collectors in Hungary and around the world who share an interest in Hungarian stamps and postal history.

    Four of the Society’s leading members will give a presentation on perspectives of Hungarian philately which they hope will be stimulating for anyone with an interest in developing closer contacts between Hungary and the UK and in encouraging greater knowledge and understanding of Hungarian culture and society.

  • London Festival of Architecture - Anatomy of a Street

    At the London Festival of Architecture the Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre KeK will present the Anatomy of a Street exhibition curated by Levente Polyak and Eszter Steierhoffer.





    Based on an on-going research project Anatomy of a Street is an exhibition portraying two examples of the high street from two Hungarian cities: Pecs and Budapest. The two streets called Kiraly utca are both epicenters of an accelerated urban transformation characteristic to post cold war Eastern Europe.

    The exhibition will feature Peter Rakosis window display photos Miklos Suranyis documentation of a specific subculture of artists and musicians hangouts in the area a small scale sculptural installation by Katarina Sevic. There will be contributions by London based Bahbak Hashemi Nezhad a map of power network visualization in the form of a copper engraving by Albert Adam works by the 1000 percent design group and showing of documentaries by Alan Siegel of new building sites in Pecs European Capital of Culture.

    During the focus weekend 26 to 27 June a thematic publication the Atlas will launch alongside the performance of Gabo Bartha a food activist from Budapest
