  • Sculptures and drawings by Lucia Nogueira
Before her death at the age of forty-eight Lucia Nogueira had become one of the most individual voices in sculpture in this country.

The artist Liam Gillick once described her as 'taking things that are close to hand and imbuing them with malignancy and magic. Combining and adapting pieces of discarded furniture and other objects, her sculptures engage with the space in which they are set.

Ten more than life-size figures crowd close together and stand as looming shadows behind a young man carrying an older man on his back. This group recalls the tale of Aeneas who carries his father Anchises from the ruins of Troy but it also resonates powerfully with present-day issues particularly the displacement of people.

GUANABARA is London’s largest Brazilian late night venue. We are open 7 nights a week with DJs, live acts and lots and lots of dancing – you’ll always see something new at GUANABARA.
The name Guanabara comes from the Tupi-Guarani language name for the famous bay in Rio de Janeiro, the gateway to Brazil and a home of blazing extremes.

A cultural mix that embraces the playground of Copacabana beach, where the sidewalks are patterned swells of black and white marble, to the hillside favela rising behind; from famous Ipanema beach and its high rise apartments to the Sugar Loaf and Jurujuba beach.

  • Buraka Som Sistema
The Gaslamp Killer, MJ Cole, Benji B, Braiden, Axel Boman, Tiger & Woods and Noaipre join Buraka Som Sistema for A Taste of Sónar, Sónar's night in London.

Shows by the Los Angeles producer The Gaslamp Killer and the Spanish beatmaker Noaipre join the highly anticipated Buraka Som Sistema show in A Taste of Sonar, the Sonar 2011 preview will take place on 19 March.

Red Bull Music Academy - repeating last year's experience - is in charge of programming the second stage, for which there are already five names confirmed: UK Garage godfather MJ Cole, DJ and BBC tastemaker Benji B, Rinse FM's Braiden, Pampa's Nordic house explorer Axel Boman and mysterious disco duo Tiger & Woods, taking part in a back to back that will keep them behind the decks all night long.

As well as these newly confirmed incorporations, A Taste of Sonar presents Buraka Som Sistema live. The kings of 'kuduro' return to London after two years with their vibrant live show, one of the very best at Sonar's recent editions.

    More acts to be announced.

    Buraka Som Sistema (Fabric/PT-AO)
    www.myspace.com/burakasomsistema

    Addicted to kuduro
100% pure adrenalin. Their overwhelming “Kalemba (Wegue Wegue)” increased their cult status in short order. They introduced us to kuduro, the Angolan dance culture, and we couldn't help asking them back. The reason is very simple: it's impossible to resist their crushing bass rhythms, breathtaking percussion and the rough finish of their foolproof collection of dancefloor hits. It is an unpolished and almost tribal sound that has won over M.I.A. and Diplo, both self-confessed fans of the project, and it comes across marvellously in their live show.

    The Gaslamp Killer (Brainfeeder/US)
    www.myspace.com/thegaslampkiller

    Earthquake in Los Angeles
A signing on the Brainfeeder label headed by Flying Lotus and a resident at the Low End Theory nights in Los Angeles, The Gaslamp Killer is one of the key names on the American west coast scene. He is the man responsible for practically half of Gonjasufi's acclaimed “A Sufi and a Killer”, as well as some inflammatory sessions in which he mixes what is apparently impossible to remix. His recent EP, “Death Gate,” also showcases his talent in the recording studio.

    Noaipre (Arkestra/ES)
    www.myspace.com/rohenoaipre

    Rhythm in his veins
This young Barcelona-based Galician producer is one of the names to watch out right now for on the map of bass music in Spain and Europe. Last year he gave us an explosive show at Sónar by Day, full of elastic basses, broken rhythms and synthetic melodies of the first order. He has already made his debut with a British-inspired maxi on in Arkestra (the collective led by Mweslee), has just remixed Lunice for his new EP on Lucky Me, and is still tirelessly working on more material for our ears.

    MJ Cole (Prolific/UK)
    www.myspace.com/mjcole100

    UK Garage godfather
A chart-topping 2step legend and former Mercury Music Prize nominee, MJ Cole has played a pivotal role in the evolution of the UK bass music continuum. 2011 sees him back in finer form than ever, effortlessly blending classic garage with bits from funky, dubstep and grime, to create a brand new, distinctly soulful sound all of his own.

    Benji B (Deviation/UK)
    http://deviationmusic.net/blog

    The Deejay’s DJ
Over the last decade, Benji B has developed a reputation as a versatile DJ, tireless CD-R hunter, important musical tastemaker, and award-winning radio producer and presenter. Now holding down a weekly slot at BBC Radio 1, his skill at identifying the most interesting movements in cutting-edge soul and electronic music is unparalleled.

    Braiden (Rinse FM/UK)
    www.myspace.com/djbraiden

    Beyond dubstep
A Rinse FM stalwart and Academy 2010 participant, Braiden is known for stretching the limits of London’s post-dubstep scene with his on-point, technical mixing and inventive selections that range from UK house to electronica to techno. No wonder his debut release on Joy Orbison's Doldrums label is getting love across the spectrum.

    Axel Boman (Pampa/SE)
    www.myspace.com/axelboman

    Sweden’s warmest Funk
Axel Boman keeps the wheels of clubland in Stockholm spinning with his unique take on both dreamy deep house and pitter-pattering techno. Another graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, the Swede has recently signed to DJ Koze’s Pampa Records, releasing two of 2010’s biggest underground anthems, “Holy Love” and “Purple Drank”.

    Tiger & Woods (Editainment/EU)
    www.myspace.com/tigerandwoods

    Mysterious Ways
There's been quite some hum around this mysterious duo's output on the Editainment label, and their trademark fusion of boogie, house and compressed funk – while the live Tiger & Woods experience has already touched down at some of Europe's most discerning disco outposts. Both members have also visited the Red Bull Music Academy planet.
